moon of Dhanishta

There are references to King Aryaraja - 300 BCE - who used to worship a lingam of ice, in Kashmir.

Rajatarangini - Book VII, Vrese 183 - refers to Amareshwara or Amarnath.
Queen Suryamathi, it is believed, offered tridents, bAnalingams and other sacred objects to the temple, in 11th Century CE.

Rajavalipataka of Prajna Bhatta has detailed references to the cave Amarnath pilgrimage.

nAga panchami

Samskrit words Sarpa and Naga are synonyms for snakes.

Sarpa means a serpent - a  single headed snake.

NAga means, a snake with many heads.

As one knows, a human mind is a multi faceted entity. It is hived, has many attributes, partitions and layers. 'NAga' therefore, is metaphor for 'mind'.

An outwardly oriented mind, is a snake with raised hood and trailing body.

An inwardly turned mind  is engrossed in the self.
A many headed snake, with its hood of attention, turned around.
Such a NAga  is seat or couch for the self.
